Charity golf day raises £6,033 for MS
This year’s charity golf day held at Handsworth Golf Club on 17th June raised a total of £6,033 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. It’s the 5th year the event has been organised by our director Ivan Hutchings and his wife Jayne, bringing the total raised to date to just over £32,000.
24 teams participated and the main competition was won by the aptly named ‘Cobbled Together’ while the Yellow Ball winning team was fielded by Birmingham-based Barques Design (pictured right).
Threadneedle Investments, Legal & General, and Standard Life provided a range of golf related prizes while the winner of the putting competition, Duncan Pitt playing for a Weightmans LLP team, received a brand new PING putter.
Ivan started the golf day after raising over £10,000 to provide his sister Annette with a wheelchair as she was told she would not walk again due to the effects of MS.
“This created the drive to continue to raise money for MS and subsequently we started the MS Golf Day in 2009. Unfortunately Annette passed away in August 2010. To celebrate her life, we now play for the Annette Austin Memorial Trophy” says Ivan.
The date for next year’s event is Monday 16th June 2014 and places are already filling fast. Anyone wishing to enter a team, donate a prize or offer sponsorship should contact Ivan at email@example.com.
